There are still a lot of good people out there.
My local indie music radio station called the good folks at Dial-A-Carol today. I had never heard of this student initiative, which apparently has been running for 53 years. Call the students of Snyder Hall, University of Illinois, and they will sing a Christmas carol of your choice down the phone. They’re not music students, just people who want to spread and soak up a bit of Christmas cheer.
The guy, Austin, who picked up the phone to the radio DJ was heart-warmingly upbeat and friendly. They did a pretty good rendition of O Holy Night, one of my favourites and a tricky one to sing with the range of notes involved. Really brightened my day. I cannot believe Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas” is their most requested carol though!
Dial-A-Carol are on (217) 332-1882 and on Twitter. They finish singing at midnight today.
